A.B.O. East Lance committee has expressed strong opposition . to any further restriction of road transport, such as is hinted at by the Association of British Chambers of Commerce.. The committee decided to send a resolution to Manchester Chamber of Commerce, asking the latter to resent all suggestions that would impose added. handicaps on commercial-vehicle operators, and pointing out that the railway companies already have preferential consideration by enjoying a subsidy for carrying certain classes of merchandise. The railways have also been relieved of obligations with regard to rates by being able to quote " agreed charges."

Meeting of c.f./ALA. Council.

A meeting of the National Council of the C.M.U.A. has been arranged for Wednesday next, January 15. No details as to the matters to be discussed are available.

West London Operators Active.

Under the cegis of A.R.O.. a meeting of West London operators was arranged for Wednesday last at the Star and Garter Hotel, Kew Bridge, Mr. C. W. Beckett, chairman of the .Western Metropolitan Sub-area being in the chair. Mr. R. W. Sewell and Major Long were to speak on the roadtransport situation.

-200 More C.M.U.A. Members in Manchester.

Since Mr. H. H. Lapsley became secretary of the C.M.1.1.A. in Manchester, five months ago, there have been 200 additions to the membership. Mr. Stanley Preece, as organizer, has contributed much to this progress. The chairman, committee and officers generally are still giving unremitting attention to the reconstruction of the Asso ciation's affairs. .

Monthly A.R.O. Meetings at Beall! and Chatham.

Regular monthly meetings are to be held by two of the A.R.O. sub-areas. The Redhill sub-area has arranged to hold a meeting on the second Thursday of each month at the Tower Hotel, Cromwell Road, Redbill. Each meeting will start at 7.30 pin.

The The Chatham sub-area will hold regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at the Board Room, 95, High Street, Chatham, and the meetings will begin at 7.30 p.m.

New A.R.O. Branch at Burton.

Following the recent meeting there, art A.R.O. sub-area has been established at Burton-on-Trent and a strong committee has been appointed, with Mr. Thos. Watson as chairman. For the time being the local secretarial work will be carried On by Messrs. Watson Brothers, Lichfield Street. Meetings are to he held monthly, and will be attended by either Mr, J. Foley Eggiriton (area secretary) or Mr. G. F. Goodwin (district organizer). Mr, Goodwin will also attend regularly at a fixedtime and place to assist members.
