• Mercedes-Benz is hoping to increase its share of the fire tender market, dominated by Volvo and Dennis, with its 1324 chassis.
This machine will go into service with the Hertfordshire fire service after demonstration work with Mercedes-Benz UK. Equipment includes a new Angus ladder stowage system which allows the ladders to be removed and replaced without climbing on top of the vehicle.
▪ Mercedes-Benz will fit Schwitzer turbochargers to its Euro-2
engines, announced last month (CM 20-26
Jan). The model approved is the S1B/S1BG turbocharger with wastegate to limit boost pres sure. This allows a smaller diameter turbocharger to be used, which offers higher boost at lower engine speeds, and should improve throttle response. Schwitzer has also completed development work on other Mercedes installations.
