• A £20 million investment plan by franchise parcels operator Panic Link could create hundreds of UK driving jobs.
The company has applied to North West Leicestershire District Council for permission to build 86 storage warehouses on 2.9 million m2 of land at the company's Leicestershire head office at Lount colliery. If the scheme goes ahead, nearly 800 jobs will be created locally in an area where the economy has been devastated by mine closures. A further 600 jobs could be created at Panic Link's franchisees as parcels traffic is increased. "There is no shortage of demand from companies wanting to use the new premises," claims a Panic spokesman. "At a guess the size of the fleet could treble by the time the site is fully operating," he adds.
The present fleet of around 100 trunking vehicles serves more than 100 franchised depots, the most recent of which was opened in south London.
