On a point of definition the )Ivo wheelbase is between e centre lines of the first and ird axles.

ange-change box

Powered by the familiar olvo TD 70E 6.7-litre 09cuin) turbocharged engine ith an output of 150kW ;01bhp), the new 8x2 uses the 51 eight-speed range-change ?arbox driving through a i6mm (14in) twin-dry-plate utch. The single-reduction de is available in two ratios 4.87 and 5.43 to 1 — with the tter being standard. As far as the kerb weight is concerned the loss of a drive axle has obviously reduced the weight when compared with the 8x4, As a guide, the 5.6m wheelbase version weighs in at 7,825kg (7 tons 14cwt) compared with the 8.445kg (8 tons 6cwt) of the double-drive model.

Body lengths

The recommended maximum body lengths are 7.05 and 8.14m (23ft and 26ft Gin) respectively.

Volvo claims that the turning circle of the 8x2 between kerbs (with all axles on the ground) is 24m (79ft) for the swb model and 26.5m (87ft) for the long.

From the spares angle, the 8x2 uses the same mechanical components as the 6x2 version including brakes and hubs, etc.

The standard fuel tank capacity of the new eightwheeler is 300 litres (66gal).
