A UNANIMOUS go-ahead for an increase in city bus fares has been given by Belfast City Council. Controversy raged at two previous meetings of the council over the proposal.

The 6d., 7d., 8d. and 9d. fares are to he increased by one penny from February 20 to help the department to pay its way.

LONDON Transport's 2,500 bus supervisory staff have asked the TGWU to authorize an official strike in support of a pay claim. Last month the supervisors struck for one day over a claim for salary increases of £65 to £75 per annum.
