Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

REAR corner panels of passenger vehicles need more repair and replacement than any other part of the body. Serious consideration had, therefore, been given to the possibility of making these parts of rubber, said Mr. S. F. Page when he read to the Institute of Traffic Administration a paper reviewing bodywork design problems.

One of the more recent developments in design, he said, was the fitting of rubber wings to commercial vehicles. One source of danger was thus eliminated, as metal wings, if torn, rusted and presented jagged edges. Operators might be fined should anyone's flesh cut by a damaged wing.

Reviewing the use of light alloys in bodywork, Mr. Page said that these materials presented great financial advantages, because of the saving of weight and the accompanying lower fuel consumption and tyre wear. Safety was increased, as light alloys do not burn or splinter like wood.

In cattle-truck building, the use of metal needed careful consideration, having regard to the effects of liquid. Lightness was also an unimportant matter in ambulance bodywork. .

MAKING THE WINE FLOW FREELY

THE Mendoza Province of the Argentine, famed for its vineyards and at the foot of the Andes, is 700 miles from Buenos Aires, where the wine is bottled. Consequently, heavy-duty tankers are used to expedite the movement of the wine to the bottlers, and Leyland Motors, Ltd., is now shipping new tankers to the area for the transport of wine in bulk.

Some of these vehicles carry 3,000 gallons and haul trailer tankers as well. The latest Leyland carries 5,000 gallons, or 600,000 glasses of wine. It is a fouraxled articulated machine, consisting of a Super Beaver tractor, coupled to a Dyson twin-rear-axled semi-trailer. The tanker body, built in the Argentine, is finished internally with an oil and grease paint baked on with a blow lamp. The resulting surface can be easily washed and white wine can be carried after red without affecting the taste and colour.

In the large cab there is a latex rubber mattress behind the driver's seat.
