• Five people were killed and 13 were injured on Monday evening when the bus they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a Volvo artic on the A42 in Leicestershire. The crash happened at 20:15hrs on the southbound carriageway just outside Birmingham, says a Leicestershire police spokesman. He adds that the vehicles involved were all travelling on the some side of the road.

The lorry driver, Graham Jager from Bradford, was detained overnight in hospital.
