• A West Lothian haulage company employed a driver for three years before realising he had no driving licence, a court has heard.
Archibald Parker got a job with Bathgate-based M8 Freight Services because his brother was a friend of the transport manager. He worked as a casual driver before going full time last year.
Parker was caught when police stopped his truck in Carlisle last March.
The company was given a 12-month conditional discharge with £35 costs after pleading guilty at Carlisle Magistrates Court to using a vehicle without valid insurance. Parker admitted driving without the correct licence, having no insurance, not taking a proper break, driving for more than 10 hours, and failing to produce record sheets or a goods vehicle test certificate. He was fined £375 with £35 costs and had his 'licence endorsed. Lisa Townsend, for M8 Freight Services, said the 7 three-year-old cornpony previously had an unblemished record and had not deliberately Flouted the law.
