Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NCE AGAIN the vexed question of permit quotas is being discussed in Brussels. nce again we pose the question, why quotas at all?

For years Britain has suffered from the quota system. It has constantly been argued at our allocation will be limited until we match the top vehicle weights in Europe. We suspect that our so-called European partners know that this will not happen. onsequently, competing on equal terms with the Germans and French is impossible. We introduced the tachograph at great expense, we increased gross vehicle eights after much internal squabbling. What more do they want?

If the EEC is a partnership then all partners should be treated equally. At the -ansport Minister's meeting on December 20 we should demand equality. There is a mple way to achieve it.

Permits should be abolished. No permits means less administration, less restriction 1d one fewer piece of legislation to be broken.

What is behind the obstructive attitude of the German and French ministers? Can it 3, we ask, that they are afraid that we will

.esent tough competition on the

aropean haulage market? Why else ould they restrict us trading?
