London Transport Services is being urged by Mr, John Page (Tory, West Harrow). He is to seek permission to introduce a Bill in the Commons to enable introduction of the plan and has asked the TUCC for support, which he considers essential if the Government is to be persuaded to take this step.
As contemplated, the mini-buses would not run in opposition to London Transport on its main services but would supplement those in certain districts, mostly outer London areas which are poorly served.
"I think there is a need for something between a bus and a taxi that could serve schoolchildren, housewives and so on," said Mr. Page.
