IT is, of course, still possible to cbtain Idelivery of certain makes of commer cial vehicle against M.O.W.T. permits, and the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., is producino. Fordson and Thames model vehicles of special interest to manufacturers and wholesalers in the various branches of the food industry.
Attention is called to the Thames 4-ton and 5-ton chassis with detach
able-sided body, and the Fordson 10-cwt. van specially suitable for delivery purposes. On' the -Thames 5-tonner there is a load space of 14 ft. 4 ins, behind the cab and as a covered truck, with tilt and a back enclosed by a tailboard and weather curtains, it provides 560 cubic ft. of loading space.
With either type of body the vehicle comes in the 30 m.p.h. class, with an annual tax of 2.30 as an open lorry, and 235 as a covered-in vehicle These Thames models have forward control and are powered with the Ford 30 h.p. eight-cylindered V-engine.
On the 4-tonner 32 by 6 heavy-duty, tyres are fitted, and on the 5-tonner the tyre size is 34 by 7. In both cases twin tyres are provided on the rear wheels.
A roomy and well-equipped cab, providing good driver visibility, is a
feature of the Thames model. It has a sliding roof, drdp windows in the doors, a one-piece windscreen which opens, and two large sliding windows in the back.
A body having a capacity of 120 cubic Its is fitted on , the Fordson 10-cwt. chassis, the loading space dimensions being 6 ft. 7 ins. long, 4 ft. 6 ins, wide and 3 ft. 91 ins. high. In addition there is an unobstructed floor area alongside the driver, which can be utilized for goods if required.
Easy entry and exit for the driver are provided by a wide door on each side of the cab. The power unit is the well-known Ford four-cylindered sidevalve engine of 10 h.p., which develops a maximum of 30 b.h.p.
The wheelbase of the van is 7 ft. 6 ins., its overall length 12 ft. 91 and the turning circle is 36 ft, Its annual tax rating is 415.
For heavier loads than are covered by the foregoing models, the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., can Supply articulated vehicles of 8-ton capacity. The -tractive unit is powered with the Ford eightcylindered engine, and many other features of the Thames, chassis are incorporated in the machine.
