Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Minister of Transport will shortly invite tenders for the reconstruction of the Menai Suspension Bridge, which for 111 years has carried the Only road connection between the Welsh mainland and the Isle of Anglesey. At the time of its construction it was by far the largest and most important suspension bridge in the world.

It is estimated that it will cost £228,000 to remodel the essential part of the structure.. The work of reconstruction is expected to take 2 years to complete.

A new deck, capable of carrying traffic without restriction, will be constructed and a single carriageway, 23 ft. wide, will be provided in place of the' two ' carriageways each 7 ft. 9 ins. wide. Two footpaths, each 5 ft. wide, will run the Whole length of the bridge, passing around the outside of the towers. The arched openings will each be widened to make easier the passage of large vehicles.

Industrial Transport Publications, Ltd., Dudley House, Southampton Street, London, W.C.2, has sent us a copy of its Transport Diary and Handbook for 1938, It contains much in formation of value to operators, such as tables of road and rail mileages, a list of clearing houses, points on vehicle licensing, maintenance hints, and 16 pages of coloured maps. It costs 2s. 8d., including postage.

Soviet Claims Second Place in Production.

According to the Monthly Review of the -U.S.S.R. Trade Delegation in Great Britain; Soviet Russia now claims to be the largest producer of lorries and tractors in Europe, and second only to the United States.

The Bus in Broadcasting.

The Northern Ireland Broadcasting Station will include in its programme at 8 p.m., on Tuesday, December 21, four speakers who will discuss the hardships and benefits of modern transport in a typical Ulster village, the title being "The Bus Comes to Ballymulcaghey." Big Australian Orders for Leylands.

A further order has been placed by the New South Wales Transport Board for 43 Leyland oil-engined buses. This is the second large Australian order announced by Leyland Motors, Ltd., within the past two weeks, the previous one being for 30 oil-engined Tigers for the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board. Since September the company has secured orders for 127 vehicles from the Australian market.
