Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Commercial vehicle registrations fell by more than 10% in July to 13,734 compared to July last year according to latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. However, registrations for the first seven months of the year were up 10% on this time last year.

In the battle ofthe heavy giants, Iveco Ford still maintains a slender lead with 22.2% of the market, but sales have dropped 0.5%. Leyland Oaf is hard on its heels with 21.1% — 426 registrations behind.

In third place is MercedesBenz with 6,185 registrations (15%). Next comes Volvo with 10.7% (4,357). Thriving ERF holds on to fifth position with 2,568 registrations — a jump of 26% compared to the same period last year.

Renault Truck Industries has beaten off the challenge from Scania to cling on to sixth spot with 6% of the market and 2,454 registrations — a drop of

more than 7% compared to 1988. Scania's soaring sales, up 32%, give the firm 5.3% of all heavy truck registrations.

MAN took almost 4% of the market followed by Seddon Atkinson with 3.2%. In tenth position comes Foden with a 37% jump in registrations to 1,016. AWL) registered 63 trucks during July bringing its total registrations for 1989 up to 799.
