• Despite a slump in truck rental, NFC has announced strong quarterly results, upping pre-tax profits 45% to 253 million for the 36 weeks to 10 June. Turnover rose 11% for the transport division in the same period.

Tankfreight, Waste Management and Lynx Express Delivery reported healthy trading positions. However, Cartransport's profits have fallen because of the loss of its Lada contract.

Exel Logistics lifted operating profits to £18.8 million. Profits in the Grocery and Leisure and the Consumer and Industrial sectors remained static.
