roduce the diesel injection ystems for the Steyr Ml lonobloc direct-injection diesel ngine (CM 7-13 July 1988). he systems will use the teyr-developed modulated inTtion technology.
Steyr has had the Ml engine eady for marine use for over a ear — further development /as held back by the lack of an utomotive customer. There /as a possibility of BMW fundig further development of the four-stroke, high-speed, six and four-cylinder engines, and a commercial manufacturer also showed interest.
The use of very high injecI fion pressures (1,500 bar/ 22,000psi) allows higher revs and power to be extracted from the turbocharged units. It also means that injection equipment has to be sophisticated to cope with those high pressures, although CM understands that unit/pump injectors are unlikely to be used.
