• The reliability of a Mercedes-Benz six-wheeled tipper has prompted a Lanarkshire construction company to commission another, complete with an unusual design of welded aluminium body. The new 2421K has already been put into service by GAS Construction of Lesmahagow, which specialises in the laying of service station forecourts.
The vee-six-engined Mercedes hauls aggregate from quarries in the Lanark area to development sites up to 80km away. Its aluminium Wilcox body is unusual in that its fixed sides are reinforced not by intermediate posts, but by tapered-section mid-height horizontal stiffeners. The front wall and tailgate are high enough to allow side extensions to be fitted.
