Co. Ltd. and Crosville Motor Services Ltd. have applied to the Traffic Commissioners for permission to operate a joint express service between Cardiff and Liverpool via Pontypridd, Brecon, Builth Wells, Newtown, Oswestry, Wrexham, Chester and Birkenhead. The proposed service, which will, in effect, open up mid-Wales, will be the first through service connecting the North and South of the Principality. Connections will be made at Newtown with Associated Motorways' Cheltenham-Bangor service. One journey daily is proposed for the summer, and one on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays in the winter. Journey time is 8 hr. 20 min., including refreshment stops. For Bournemouth : A tender by Leyland Motors Ltd. for the supply of three singledecker bus chassis for £7,733 has been accepted by Bournemouth Corporation. which has also accepted a tender for the three bodies by Metro-Cammell-Weymann at a cost of £9,403.

Hebble Seeks Fares Revision : An application for revised fares has been made by Hebble Motor Services Ltd., of Halifax. The company seeks to cut distances between fare stages, to increase return fares up to Is. 8d. by 2d.. and to make comparable increases in higher value return fares.

M. and D. Seek Higher Fares : Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd. is to apply for increased fares following the wages award for private bus company staffs granted last month.

Higher Tees-side Fares Sought: The Teesside Railless Traction Board, Middlesbrough, is to seek permission to increase fares on trolley and motor buses. If approved, the 21d. and 3d. trolleybus fares will be unchanged, but id. will be added to 4d. and 4id. fares and Id. on 5d. fares and above. On motorbuses, fares from 2d. to 31d. will be maintained, but other fares will be raised on the same scale as the trolleybuses.

Direct Run: A direct bus service between Whitley Bay and Morpeth (Northumberland) has been introduced by United Automobile Services Ltd.

Safety Awards : Presentation of awards gained by the staff of Stratford-upon-Avon Blue Motors Ltd. in the Road Operators Safety Council Competition for 1962-63 were made recently. Dvr. R. A. Dee received an award for 26 accident-free years.

Extras for Leopards: A revised specification of the 36-ft.-long Leyland Leopard bus and coach chassis incorporates a 15-cu.-ft. air compressor instead of the 10-cu.-ft.-capacity unit originally specified. Now included as optional extras are a power-assisted handbrake, a spare wheel carrier (on the bus chassis) and a magnetic-particle fan coupling.
