Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The application made by the Associates Committee of the British Road Federation, on behalf of a number of constituent bodies, for a variation, at Easter, Whitsun and August holiday periods, of the hours regulations, as laid down in Section 19 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, in respect of C-licence vehicles, has been refused by the Minister, of Transport, who, after referring the matter to the Industrial Court, has decided not to make an Order. The names of the bodies concerned with the application were given in our issue dated March 13.

Oil from British Wells.

Hopes of the production, in the near future, of oil from wells in this country were expressed by Sir John Cadman, chairman of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Co., Ltd., and president of the Institute of Petroleum Technologists, speaking at Llandarcy (Skewen) oil refineries, last week.

Several parts of England and Wales were known to contain oil, and these would be carefully explored. The drill, which had been started by his company at Portsdown, on March 30, could sink to three miles.

Problems of Road Research.

An interesting series of three lectures will be delivered by Mr. R. E. Stradling, C.B., of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, at 8 p.m., on April 20 and 27 and May 4, at the Royal Society of Arts, John Street, Adelphi, London, W.C.2. Application for tickets should be made to the secretary of the Society.
