• Tighter vehicle emission controls are on the way.
Department of Transport regulations will require operators to keep engines properly tuned and all emission-control equipment will have to be maintained efficiently.
The proposed changes will bring Britain into line with EC directive 83/77.
Responses to the consultative document must be with the Department of Transport by 31 January 1990. 0 The World Wide Fund for nature has produced a report on UK vehicle emissions which concludes that petrol engines account for 85% of the total.
