Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• by David Harris The supermarket giant Safeway has agreed to meet disgruntled truck drivers who say they are fed up with delays and the poor treatment at regional distribution centres.

Mark Aylwin, supply director of Safeway, agreed to meet the drivers after speaking to Barrie Tozer, the driver who runs the webyte Truckersmoan.com.

The drivers, whose complaints are against RDCs generab and not just those run by Safeway, say that they are frequently held. at ADCs for hours wading to load or unload, and are refused access to toilets or site canteens where they could get something to eat.

Tozer says: 'We've had hundreds of complaints from drivers about this. Sometimes we will arrive on time and be delayed four or five hours when we are booked to pick up another load from somewhere else. A lot of drivers have lost loads because of this."

But Tozer praises Aylwin for agreeing to meet with the drivers and said he hoped that other supermarkets might follow his lead. Aylwin says he has sympathy for the drivers' predicament. He adds: "We want to understand in detail the problems they are experienc1ng.

"The thing is that we want a quick turnaround as well—we don't want vehicles blocking up the yard.

"And one thing we can certainly do something about is making sure outside drivers have proper access to toilets and canteens."

The meeting with Aylwin has been arranged for 8 August at 8am at the Bunker Cafe, Crawley, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, 0 Contact: www.truckers moan.co.uk
