• Oaf's 95XF tractor remains popular with used buyers, if results at a recent sale held by Commercial Vehicle Auctions (CVA) at its Doncaster site are anything to go by.

A rear-lift 6x2 430 dating back to 2000, and on a V plate, sold for £25,750. From the same year, but on a W plate, a 480 mid-lift went for £28,250.

The same sale saw a W-plate, year 2000, Renault Premium 385.22 6x2 tractor knocked down for /14,750.

Volvo FHt25 remain popular, and a

1994, M -registered, 6x2 was able to command £7,850.

Scania R1 13s and R.143s are continuing to do well, despite their advancing years, "In fact they're typically fetching £1,000 to ii,500 more than they did back in January," reports CVA managing director, Chris Wright.

Many of them are going for export, and a lot of older fridge trailers are heading in the same direction. "We're seeing examples dating back to 1980 being bought for operation in Eastern Europe," he says.

Some trucks might fetch more if operators at least took the trouble to give them a wash and brush-up and do simple things like empty the ashtray in the cab, Wright says. "Spending a couple of hours on a vehicle to make it presentable can pay dividends," he reckons. "Remember that buyers are getting very choosy these days."

CVA is continuing to organise Saturday auctions at hauliers' premises.

"We've got a number in the pipeline, and they're all companies that have decided to pack up," he says." It's good business for us; but it is a worrying sign for the industry."
