Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALL MANUFACTURERS taking part in CM's round-Britain Economy Run were weighed in at the start by Colindale Equipment's new single axle (SA) weighbridge.

The SA was designed to meet the need for a low-cost unit which can be used in permanent or semi-permanent locations and, with its accuracy of better than plus or minus 1.5 per cent it coped effortlessly with all vehicle and trailer conbinations.

Each weighbridge incorporates about 24kg of specially compounded Malaysian natural rubber in the two load cells. Natural rubber is preferred for its good bonding to metals, its durability and its stress/strain characteristics, which are ideal for this application.

With the unpredictablity of the British climate, good low and high temperature performance is also essential. Colindale quotes a temperature range of —20°C to +40°C for the SA.

The lost-cost fixed weighbridge contains no batteries, delicate electronics or inconvenient trailing cables. Consequently maintenance is minimal and recalibration is easily carried out by the user.

Laboratory accuracy is claimed to be plus or minus 0.3 per cent at 16°C and field tests have shown that vehicles may be weighed by drivers to a constant accuracy within plus or minus 1.5 per cent that of a con ventional fixed weighbridge. It has a scale graduated in 50kg divisions and an operating capacity of 0-16 tonnes with an overload capacity 10 tonnes.

Priced just less than £2,000 the SA is about half the price of conventional single-axle fixed weighbridges and is distributed by Colindale Equipment, Unit 7, The Hyde Industrial Estate, Colindale, London.
