A NEW definition of legs picketing is being sought b the British Institute c Management.

In a submission to Secretar of State for Employmer James Prior, the BIM says ii members are in favour of legal definition of picketin and those who may take par although realising that th could provide "a formula fc martyrdom for hardliners".

The BIM also feels that code of practice on picketir would be far more useful if was drawn up jointly by tl BIM, employers, unions, ar the Advisory, Conciliatio and Arbitration Service.

Information for the BIM response was gathered in survey of nearly 1,0( managers. Three quarters them believed that worke have a right to peaceful pic eting.

But, of those who support( picketing, 82 per cent felt th it should be limited to those dispute at their own place work, while just five per ce thought that secondary pie eting was desirable.
