CRAVEN TASKER Ltd will have on display at the Scottish Motor Show its new curtain sided semi-trailer, which is manufactured at the company's Woodville factory. Ian McIntosh, director and manager at Woodville, believes that demand for curtain sided trailers will continue to grow, particularly from the numerous trailer rental companies, because of the excellent load access provided by the design and is confident that his product will compete strongly with the others already on the market.

• The new trailer is made enti ely by Craven Tasker with tii e advantage that the unfinished chassis is not exposed to the elements while waiting in a bodybuilder's yard. Shotblasting of the steel chassis and superstructure components is offered as an optional extra to the normal paint treatment of one coat of primer, one undercoat and one top coat, if further rust protection is required.

A 12.2m (40ft) Task curtain 1 s der has an internal length of 12.097m (39ft 81/4in) and a side aperture length of 11.976m 1f( 9ft 31/2in). Coupled to a .320m (527in unladen) fifth heel the overall height of the ailer is just less than 4.27m 14ft) with a side aperture eight (to underside of track) 2.67m (8ft 9in). Alternative side aperture heights down to 1.98m (6ft 6in) and up to 2.89m (9ft 6in) may be specified.

Unusually, the double rear doors are all steel with claimed advantages over the "ply sandwich" type of lightness, greater durability and ease of repair. The four hinges on each door are welded to the doorpanel. Steel is also used for the pressed, corrugated front bulkhead panel which is fully welded and claimed by Craven Tasker to give excellent resistance to water ingress. A moulded grp wind deflector for the front bulkhead is an optional extra.

The steel box section underrun bumper is mounted higher than normal to avoid grounding damage, and the outer ends are welded to the body rear corner pillars to form a framework on which is mounted the rear lights and marker plates.

A one piece aluminium roof sheet is supported by pressed steel roof bows and is secured by solid, light alloy rivets at 50mm (2in) pitch. Three roof support posts run along the centre line of the trailer, but one only may be specified if maximum floor space is required.

Although the curtains are manufactured by Boalloy Engineering Ltd they are not the same load bearing assemblies as used in the "Tautliner". The securing straps and buckles are also supplied by Boalloy and, together with the curtains' vertical webbing stiffeners, have a nominal pitch of 0.61m (2ft). Horizontal ten sioning of the polyest reinforced pvc curtains is pr vided at the front end by ratchet and lever arrang ment.

Standard position for ti press fit king pin is 940mm lin) with a second position 1143mm(3ft 9in). The Haacl landing legs from West GE many are now used throug out the Craven Tasker sen trailer range.

With narrow pread, mc leaf suspension, 11-22.5 tut less tyres, Wain hardwoc half-lapped floor and car straps the unladen weight o Task curtain sider is around ton trailer gross weight 12.: (40ft), 5.89 tonnes (5.8 tons)
