Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A DRIVER who was laid off by a Scottish haulage company for a month won his case for unfair dismissal at a hearing in Edinburgh — and was awarded £47.50 compensation.

The Edinburgh Industrial Tribunal was told that Gavin Wallace of Penicuik, who was employed by T. Dugan Haulage Contractors, reported for work on January 3 but was sent home because of the weather conditions.

He was advised to sign on at the Department of Employment but continued to report for work each morning until February 5, when snow had cleared sufficiently to allow work to start again.

But the firm did not pay him during the month's lay-off.

He was entitled to E33 guaranteed pay to February 1 and £14.50 for the first two days of February, ruled the Tribunal.
