HAROLD WOOD STARTS AGAIN

AO. HAROLD WOOD, founder and one-time chairman and managing director Of the 500-plus Heckmonclwike-based tanker fleet which bears his name, is back in the tanker business again.

Confirming this to COMMERCIAL MOTOR, 68-year-old Mr. Wood said that he hoped to operate his first vehicle this week. This would be working under a Contract A licence for Charles Lowe and Co. (Manchester) Ltd., of Reddish, near Stockport, who are chemical manufacturers. Mr. Wood intends to add further vehicles at intervals. Initially all would be working under contract licences.

It was in February of last year that Mr. Wood parted company with Harold Wood and Sons Ltd. a company which was then a wholly owned subsidiary of Norcros Ltd. Later last year the company was taken over by Pickfords to become part of the Transport Holding Company.
