• Westbourne Motors of St Austell has had its 0-licence revoked due to persistent maintenance problems.
The company appeared at disciplinary proceedings in Truro before Western Traffic Commissioner Major General John Carpenter for the third time in as many years.
Director Brian Clarke maintained that the company's maintenance and administrative problems were due to a lack of co-operation on the part of its staff, four of whom had now set up in opposition.
Last July the Commissioner cut the authorisation on the licence from 17 to 10 vehicles, and curtailed it to expire on 1 February (CM 16-22 August 1990). Evidence was given that since then a vehicle examined on the M4 had been given a prohibition notice, and that a further seven vehicles were found to be defective at a fleet inspection. No inspection records were available.
Clarke said that after the July hearing he had emphasised to the foreman how serious the situation was.
Carpenter said the company had been clearly warned last July, and if anything the situation had worsened. The company's vehicles had attracted six immediate prohibitions, two delayed prohibitions and a number of defect notices.
