• MFI has laid off 120 workers at its Northampton distribution centre, but says that transport jobs are not at risk.
The furniture retail group employs more than 50 drivers and shunters. Some 30% of the group's distribution is handled by 20 haulage contractors on a spot-hire basis. If times continue to be tough these contractors, could be dropped.
