• I 'K hauliers travelling through France could face the perennial problem of blocked roads, warns the British Embassy in Paris.

The embassy says the French farmers union Co-Ordination Rurale is threatening to blockade Paris roads on 15 September in an attempt to influence EC Agriculture and Foreign ministers who meet later in the month to discuss the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.

A decision on whether to set up mobile blockades will be taken by Co-Ordination Rurale after a meeting on 9 September of the main agriculture union FNSEA which will decide whether to support the action.

CI Spanish road transport operators are this week striking against increased fuel tax. Large-scale disruption is not expected because the trade association involved, Fenadismer, has only about a quarter of Spain's operators as members.
