Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Fleet of Five Modern Vehicles Recently Supplied for Service

at Liege.

FIVE single-deck trolley-buses have recently. been supplied by Ransames, Sims and Jefferies, Ltd., of Ipswich, to the order of the S.A. des Tramways Unitiiis Liege et Extensions. They are of the company's D type, and the chassis is of very /Oust design, with axles and other members of section possessing ample strength to with

stand service in quite severe conditions of overloading.

The motor is of the series-wound traction type, enclosed and ventilated, and it develops 60-65 h.p., and has a considerable overload capacity. Front and rear brakes are incorporated, and, additionally, the controller is arranged for rheostatic braking.

An interesting point is that the trolley carriage, which allows the booms to make a complete revolution if desired, is Mounted on Ransome's patent spreader base, by which the roof is relieved of all strain when the booms are in operation, and especially if the trolley wheels should happen to leave the overhead cable. The tyres are of the Englebert straight-sided, pneumatic type, those on the front wheels being 40 ins. by 8 ins., whilst the rear wheels carry twin 38-in. by 7-in. tyres ; the wheel discs for the two tyre sizes are interchangeable.

The need for robust chassis design and overload capacity on the part of the motor is appreciated when it is stated that the saloon body provides for 20-30 standing passengers, in addition to 30 seated passengers. Front and rear doors are provided, although, if necessary, this type of vehicle is suitable for one-man operation. The interior finish is carried out in polished mahogany with metal fittings in oxidized copper, the seats being of the semibucket type, upholstered in red leather.
