• This week Road Haulage Wages Council Order RH(94) was published. It takeseffect from October 12 and sets out the new minimum rates of pay. For example, the minimum for a 40-hour week for drivers of vehicles up to 5 tons becomes £16 10s, plus 5s for those with home depots in the London area. Other minimum rates are correspondingly increased.

Where October 12 is not the beginning of a weekly pay period, the new rates take effect from the beginning of the next full pay period, but in no case later than October 18.

The Order also sets out the new holiday entitlements for workers with varying qualifying periods of service.
