Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DAF TRUCKS made a net profit of £4.5m in 1980 compared with £4.1m in 1979. But despite increased profits sales for 1980 fell by almost three per cent to E284.6m.

The company's average market share in Western Europe rose from 5.9 per cent in 1979 to 6.2 per cent in 1980. Last year it achieved a 6.1 per cent market penetration in the UK compared with 5.5 per cent in 1979.

DAF expects to make a loss in the first half of 1981 and the results for the year overall "will depend entirely on when the market picks up, the extent of that recovery and how the hauliers in turn react to an upturn in trade," said a spokesman.
