Lancaster Town Council is still looking into the matter of the acquirement of a motor fire-engine.

The Chief Officer of the Eccles brigade has been instructed to obtain catalogues from various firms of motor fire-engines made by them.

At the last meeting of the Liverpool City Council, a motion to refer back a recommendation to spend £900 on the purchase of a motor fire-engine and escape-carrier was defeated, the majority of the members deciding that the machine was wanted. Edinburgh is going to invite tenders again. It will be recalled that certain recommendations that were made last year were not confirmed by the Town Council.

Mr, H. IL Delf, of Lansing, Mich.. writes : "We are quite satisfied with our change from horsedrawn fire motors to the gasolene driven vehicle. At one fire our motor pumped water continually for 14 hours at a pressure of SO lb. Another engine pumped for 10 hours at a pressure of 93 lb., with the temperature 12 degrees above zero."

(Thief Officer W. Muir, of the Fire Salvage Association of Liverpool, writes as follows : " It occurs to me that the paragraph in your issue of the 2nd inst., with regard to our Dennis machines, may be open to misconception so far as your reference to ' rescue. work is concerned, more particularly as one of the fire-service papers recently contained a paragraph implying that we were. engaged in colliery rescue work. I need hardly point, out that our machines are, of course, used wholly for salvage purposes following fires."
