Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

its launch the Magnum remains a striking vehicle. Uniquely, the cab is mounted completely above the driveline to give a completely flat floor but it's a dizzying 1.68m from the ground, needing four steps. These are deep and wide, but shuffling across to the door requires a firm two, handed grip which is tricky when carrying a bag.

Fortunately, it's worth the climb. The Renault's maximum ceiling height of 1.85m is maintained so it is possible to walk unhindered around the cab.

Claustrophobia is no problem with the Magnum's huge, deep windscreen, though it lacks roof windows. The 385ti only has the lower bunk as standard, which improves the feeling of space. The Magnum is also the only cab in which you can get out of bed normally, swinging your legs out and standing up without fear of barking your shin, hitting your head or tripping over the engine.

The bunk was firm but comfortable; it's also the shortest in our test group.

The central light switch is mounted in the instrument console beside the radio: lights and radio cannot be controlled from the bunk.

Storage space is impressive, with a cavernous space beneath the bunk, which lifts on gas struts. There are "aircraft-style" lockers and wardrobes at each end of the bunk; but as usual they're too narrow for a bulky coat. A nice touch is the shaving mirror above the bunk.

The Magnum has blinds all round, which work well and are opaque, but will they last as well as curtains? The electric front blind is impressive: operated from the dashboard, it can be used as a sunstrip. Two stops prevent it from being fully lowered by accident.

The Magnum is unique, but some details look slightly dated: the colour scheme and the plastic dashboard are rather "eighties" and the design also needs freshening up in more important ways.

This is a great concept in need of the facelift it will get next year.
