LONDON Transport says that 1978 has been a disappointing year for buses.
Difficulty in recruiting bus staff, increasing traffic congestion and continuing mechanical problems meant that only 92.5 per cent of .tcheduled bus mileage was operated, although passenger traffic was only 1.2 per cent below target.
LT's Underground had a good year, though, and helped to contribute to the Executive's ELlm surplus, after GLC grants are taken into account.
