THE FINAL 48km (30 mile) stretch of motorway linking the French towns of Narbonne and Perpignan has now been opened. This enables drivers to travel from northern Holland to Barcelona using the complete motorway system.

New investment

HESTAIR Dennis plans to repurchase the freehold of the Dennis Motors works in Guildford for £4.25 million, the price paid for it six years ago when it was sold to Rank City Wall.

The Hestair group is also raising £5.1 million to finance other activities.

Wadham Stringer's profits go up

WADHAM Stringer's net 1977 profit of E1.5 million was up from 1976's £1.1 million.

• DAF Trucks has begun a fiveyear international sales expansion programme by opening a lorry and bus assembly line in Accra, Ghana.

Autoparts Ltd is building two vehicles per day for DAF, Local assembly was dictated by a shortage of import licences.

DAF has supplied ckd bus chassis to Morocco for some years, and is exploring the possibilities of establishing other assembly plants, first in Nigeria.

Half a million

THE BEDFORD TK has become the first British-origin lorry to break the half million production figure.

The 500,000th TK since building began in 1960 was finished last week at General Motors de Portugal's Azambuja plant near Lisbon.

It was assembled from a ekd kit shipped from Bedford's Dunstable works.
