SOUTHERN area Road Haulage Association members have set up a new co-operative comp to handle clearing house activities in the South. Area secretary Albert Simpson told CM that company, Road Operators Associated Deliveries Ltd (ROADS), would be operating on a widell to provide members with any kind of load.

"We have been in the process of setting up this company for some time but the standard articles of association were not wide enough and new ones had to be drafted," said Mr Simpson, who is the secretary of the new company.

The company has been set up under RHA policies dating from 1961 when the R:FIA declared that it would "foster cooperation" and empowered its area secretaries help if possible.

Company chairman is Fred Locke of Warwick and Barr, who is also managing director of Hampshire Hauliers Ltd, another co-operative. The members of the cc pany, currently 11, are active members of the R and hold office either as s area chairmen or commit chairmen.

"The possibilities for t kind of exercise are endle. said Mr Simpson.

Now the new compan, looking for a manager. "1 s pose what we want is a wl kid," said Mr Simpson. " have already had a lot of terest in this company fr outside companies and want to exploit it."

And he hit back at R members who have critici the association for not p viding services for memb, "They criticise us but tl don't tell us what they w and then when somethinf done they don't support he said.
