• All sectors of the transport industry are represented in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Montague Prichard, chairman of Perkins Engines Group Ltd, is knighted for his services to export, and a similar honour is conferred on Sidney Morris Caffyn, chairman of Caffyn's Ltd, a BLMC distributor in Kent and Sussex. And CBEs go to R. R. Hopkins, personnel director Vauxhall Motors Ltd: Mons Little, deputy chairman and managing director, Scottish Transport Group; and F. J. Speight, for his services to the Passenger Vehicles Operators' Association.

OBE

Two civil servants who appear on the list of OBEs are W. IL Prew, chief driving examiner; and D. Hadreth, senior supply and transport officer, Ministry of Defence. Other OBEs are IL H. Addlesee, director of labour and staff relations to the West Midlands PTE; A. J. Cormack, a member of the Economic Development Committee for the motor vehicle distribution and repair industry; B. J. Gee, director and general manager of United Transport Company Quarry Holdings Ltd.

MBE James Clubb, managing director of Clubbs of Dartford, is made an MBE for his services to charity. An MBE goes to another man on the haulage side of the industry, E. Fitzpatrick, manager of the Sheffield branch of Pickfords Heavy Haulage Ltd, and to J. R. Forsyth, manager at the Halewood transmission plant of the Ford Motor Co Ltd.

Two jocal authority men to be similarly honoured are J. Forton, area manager refuse disposal branch at the public health engineering department of the GLC, and P. D. Hallam, professional officer at the GLC department of planning and transportation. J. W. Fox, establishment officer at Merseyside PTE, and H. Howarth, a professional and technology officer at the DoE, are also on the MBE list.

E. C. Moore, works manager in the diesel engine components division of Associated Engineering Ltd, becomes an MBE for his services to export, and E. P. Viughan, deputy supply and transport officer at the Ministry of Defence, together with E. N. Sakter, secretary of the North West Road-Car Co Ltd and Omnibus Stations Ltd, complete the transport men on the MBE list.

BEM

Best known to CM readers among those receiving the BEM is Stan Chapman, who drives for Shell-Mex and BP Ltd at Killingholme terminal. He is a regular contestant at the LDoY Final; after being declared the winner in 1969 he lost the title when the stewards upheld a protest — he competes again at this year's Final.

Other drivers to receive the BEM are J. Baird, of the Ulster Savings Committee: George Hill, Sheffield United Tours Ltd; R. Iles, BRSL Grimsby; D. R. Smith, Warwick and Barr Ltd, haulage contractors, Whitchurch. The yard superintendent of Containerway and Roadferry Ltd at Lame, J. Wallace, has also been awarded the BEM together with G. J. E. Bird, transport inspecting officer at the London Fire Brigade, J. Monks, quality control foreman, Ford Motor Co Ltd, and F. W. Thornton, cash van assistant, SELNEC PTA.
