Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THIS year's bodywork drawing and 1 handicraft competitions produced some interesting entries in the bus and utility vehicle spheres. In the competition for an outline drawing of an open utility body, the first prize was won by D. B. Jennings, of Sandbach. His design, resembling a private car, was distinguished by the idea of using a curved roller shutter for enclosing the load-carrying section.

Second prize was awarded to D. H. Smith. of Hendon, London, for a design incorporating a folding tilt. Third prize went jointly to C. A. Lodge, of Hendon. London, and M. J. Knight, of Twickenham. • In the competition for a low-height double-deck bus, 27 ft. long and 8 ft. wide, all the designs, with one exception, had full-width cabs and recessed gangways on the upper decks. First prize of £75 and the medal of the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers was awarded to D. Rushton, Manchester. His drawing depicted a 56-seater vehicle with a rear entrance and stairway.

Second prize of E.37 10s. and the

Worshipful Company's medal, awarded to R. Parsons, Leeds, was for`a vehicle seating 51 passengers, and having a central entrance and stairway. Third prize (£15. and'. the Worshipful Company's medal), won by F I. C. Hollyman, London, was the only all-metal_ design, . the drawing depicting an aluminium structure fitted with seats for 57 passengers.

In the class for the design of an ambulance for dealing with sickness and casualty cases, B. J. Garner, Stanrnore, Middlesex, waS awarded the first prize of £50. second prize (£25) going to S. Reynolds, Neasden, London. Third prize (E15). was awarded to -W. Black, Clapham, London. All three successful contestants are designers employed by Spurling Motor Bodies, Ltd.

The competitions were organized by the Institute of British Carriage and Autornobile Manufacturers, in association with the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the National Federation of Vehicle Trades.
