Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN our issue for last week we published a letter which the Minister of Transport caused to be sent to the secretary of the-. Hirers' and Coach Services 'Association in response to that association's letter regarding the

, administration of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, in the Metropolitan Traffic Area. We also gave the gist of a reply made by the M.H.C.S.A., to which we now learn the Minister has caused an answer to be sent. In this reference, is made to consultations that have taken place in the past • few weeks between some of the larger operators of motor coaches serving the London area; the outcome of which, it appears, the Minister awaits with interest.

As regards "restricted streets," the letter states that, on receiving an application from the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner, followtng a consultation c40

the period of transition, and that, some disorganization must be expected. The consultations to which reference was made in column one, whilst allowing co-ordination of some valuable data concerning coach traffic and the problem of congestion inside the Central London area, do not appear to have afforded adequate opportunity for small operators to give expression to their views. The M.H.C.S.A., therefore, has held a special committee meeting to consider this position and has asked for ,another consultation of the committee convened by the larger operators, with the object of placing 'before that committee its conclusions upon the needs of the smaller ' operators, so that their views may be conveyed in the recommendations sent forward to the Minister.

As stated, the Minister has indicated that he awaits these recommendations.
