A system of coloured headlights has recently been adopted by the Great Eastern London Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., in order to assist intending passengers to distinguish the different services.

Additional Clarkson omnibuses have been purchased by the National Steam Car Co., Ltd., and that company's extension of its route to Rye Lane, Peckham, appears to be paying well-probably because Tilling's extension to Bromley reduced the frequency of that company's service at the London end of the route.

The Borough Council of Tunbridge Wells, a few weeks ago, after representations made by this journal, agreed to allow any holder of a Scotland-Yard motorbus driving-licence to take charge of a vehicle in the area under its jurisdiction, and not to insist upon certain other certificates of proficiency. We are glad to be able to state that the same result has now been achieved by us at Folkestone.

Daimler's " K.P.L." Omnibus.

The first-published description of the new Daimler (Knight-Pieper-Lanchester) motorbus will be found on pages 288 and 289. A satisfactory demonstration run, for the information of Press representatives, was undertaken last Tuesday, to Leamington, through Kenilworth, amid back to Coventry, with a load of 23 passengers. Mr. E. Manville presided over the luncheon party, winch included Messrs. Martin, Ins-tone, Knight, Lanchester and Stratton, of the Daimler Co., [t the Regent Hotel, Leamington. The bus ran quietly, stopped and started well, and proved itself an easy hill-climber. We shall hope to have more to say about it next week.

Success at Keighley.

In the course of the presentation of the Keighley Tramway Committee's report on the working of its urban transport system for the year ended the 31st March last, the satisfactory financial results of the motorbes services, which are maintained by the Town Council, were revealed. The gross profit on revenue account was 3,655, from which t1,211 was absorbed for interest, and £1,696 for sinking-fund. After all possible debit., there is still a profit. At the meeting at which the above accounts were presented, various members of the Council expressed their appreciation of the satisfactory working of the nintorbuses, and it. was agreed that they were a " striking success."

Assisting a Light Railway.

At the request of the North Stafferdshire Railway Co., and of the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway Co., Commercial Car Hirers, Lid., is to resume the char-it-banes service between Buxton and Hulme End on

the 4th of July. It is proposed to continue the service until the end of September. This same contracting company notifies us that it is already busy with special hirings for beanfeasts and other similar excursions.

Wait and See ! 1 A contributor to " The Daily Express," who writes at some length on "the London Traffic Problem," states. that his original preference for an almost-universal tramway service has given place to a desire to see " what motor development will do." He considers that it has " undoubtedly helped to prevent the present traffic from becoming more hopeless."

Advertisement at Last!

As we go to press, the Secretary of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., sends to us a 16-page sheet, which folds into convenient pocket size, upon which are set forth details of the various motorbus and horseomnibus route. There are still, we regret to observe, no fewer than 61 horse services, compared with 24 motor services, but the latter enormously exceed the former in respect of passengers conveyed and miles travelled. We hope to refer more fully to the matter of this new advertisi g departure next week ; its front page bears, above an alluring picture of a motorbus on a country road, the words--" Open air to everywhere."
