Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The arrival of web-based tacho analysis systems has certainly brought the price of analysis down, with many operators opting to have a bureau hold and analyse their data and to view it at leisure on the bureau's servers via the internet, rather than buy bespoke fleet management software with all the associated costs. However, interestingly, rather than sell its Clockwatcher' fleet software to operators, Tachodlsc offers it as a 'subscription-based' service. Why is this so? Crispe insists: "If legislation changes, we can provide regular updates, which are all included in the regular subscription cost. whereas if you're doing a one-off cost from the beginning, that product could be out of date with new legislation. We're much more interested in providing good service levels than a one-off big hit."

The subscription concept is certainly popular with all fleet sizes, reports Crispe. "When we started out, our business model was that bigger companies would go for the bureau, and smaller ones for the software. But one of our biggest software customers has over 400 drivers and we've got one-man bands using the bureau. We stopped trying to 'box up' customers long ago. It's about giving options, not just going down one route or another."
