ik WARNING that there may have to P% be pruning of bus services operated by Ribble Motor Services Ltd., was issued by the company chairman, Mr. R. P. Beddow, at the annual general meeting on Tuesday.
Referring to recent increases in fares, Mr. Beddow said that these, coupled with economies they hoped to achieve" including, if necessary, pruning of losing services "—would restore the company's finances in a full year.
Mr. Beddow referred to inquiries now
under way into the organization and provision of transport in large conurbations. There was pressure for the creation of large monolithic undertakings without there being a full understanding of the deficiencies and costly nature of such organizations.
" Many of the alleged deficiencies of bus services in these areas are more imaginary than real," he said, "and there are none that could not be overcome by the extension or rationalizing of existing joint working and financial pooling agreements."
