Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new transport maintenance depot built by the West Midlands Gas Board at Nechells, Birmingham, was formally opened on Tuesday by Mr. John Else, Area Licensing Authority.

The depot, in Duddeston Mill Road, occupies part of the site of the old Saltley gas works; it has workshops with a total area of 40,000 sq. ft. with another 6,000 sq. ft. of parking space for vehicles awaiting attention. With modern equipment almost any job from routine vehicle maintenance to complete reconditioning can be undertaken. The Board's fleet consists of more than 1,000 vehicles plus 570 units of mobile plant. The vehicles range from 24-ton tankers to minivans.

The fleet is growing at the rate of 60 vehicles a year and the previous premises— area workshops in Chester Street. Aston, and regional workshops in Proctor Street, Nechells—were too small and lacked the special equipment needed to maintain vehicles to the standards required by the MoT. Both regional and area workshops are brought under one roof in the new premises.
