The deal is similar to the order placed by the two operators in 2010, which represented Scania’s largest supply agreement in the UK. Vehicles are due to be delivered between March 2012 and December 2013, and about 300 will enter service this year. The vehicle mix will comprise mainly R-series units but will also include a significant number of G-series trucks.

Truck registrations were up 45.4% year-on-year to 3,586 in January, meaning that for the rolling year registrations are up 24.6% to 44,063. The SMMT adds that overall registrations in 2012 are likely to be marginally up on 2011.
