Wresting the title away from Scania's R620, with its 6 l2hp(457kW)and3,0(X/Nm, the Volvo FH16 660 offers 650hp(485kW)and3.100Nm. And in a sign that even more power could be obtained, the power curve is unusually flat, featuring a plateau from 1,5001,80Orpm.The flat top of the torque curve is even wider, extending from 1..000-1,450rpm.

Although the FH16 660 is obviously designed for arduous operations at 60 tonnes in Northern Europe. no doubt there will he a few on UK general haulage by the year's end.

Orders are being taken; production will start in June.
