IIII A decision is expected within days on the successful bidder for British Rail's parcels company Red Star.
The announcement will take the first part of BR's business into the private sector following Transport Secretary John MacGregor's decision to privatise the freight and parcels businesses.
It is understood that BR directors are considering several submissions, including ones from Red Star's former international managing director Peter Hetreed. TNT, and bus operator British Bus.
A management buy-out headed by general manager Jonathan Smith has been rejected.
