based waste disposal contractor G I Hadfield & Sons has been given a formal warning about maintenance.
North Western TC Martin Albu took no further action against the company after director Geoffrey Hadfield said he felt embarrassed about the proceedings and was about to contract out maintenance. The company holds a licence for 25 vehicles and five trailers. It appeared at a Manchester disciplinary inquiry following prohibition notices.
DOT vehicle examiner John Moss said he had carried out a maintenance investigation following a "neglect" pmhibition. He inspected four vehicles, issuing two defect notices for minor defects. The records showed too long a period between inspections-20 weeks in one case. One trailer had no recorded inspections. Since January 1991, four immediate and two delayed prohibitions, plus one variation notice, had been imposed.
The company had the facilities and capability of getting the vehicles up to standard, said Moss, but he felt that a sole fitter employed by the firm was insufficient.
Director Geoffrey Hadfield said that in the past the company had found it difficult to find the appropriate staff to do the job.
