Geoff Dossetter. director of external affairs at the Freight Transport Association (FTA), says that during the worst of the flooding in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, the FTA was contacted by the Department for Transport (DfT) to help identify haviers with tankers able to carry fresh water. as well as those with cranes that could run bowsers into local sites.
Dossetter says: "This was the Off acting on behalf of Severn Tren t Water. There were echoes of 2001 when we had a similar government request during the foot-and-mouth crisis —we were asked about tipper operators that could ferry carcasses from farms to incinerators."
