REPLYING to a suggestion by Viscount Monsell, in the House of. Lords, that some railways should be turned into roads, Lord Mane roil said that the Government were always ready, in conjuction with the British Transport Commission and the local highway authority, to consider converting a disused branch line into a highway. Generally, however, the cost would be heavy, because of different requirements of width and headroom, and the conversion might not be economic.
